Analytical Method | Methylene Blue: Hydrogen sulphide reacts with N,N-dimethylphenylene diamine forming colourless leuco-methylene blue, which is oxidised by Fe3+ ions to form intensely coloured methylene blue. The intensity of that colour is proportional to the concentration of sulphide in the water sample. |
Number of Tests | 80 |
Interferences | The methylene blue test method is highly specific to sulphide, and suitable for testing fresh- and seawater. Strong reducing agents interfere by preventing formation of the blue colour, so does thiosulphate >10 mg/L. Ferrocyanide produces a blue colour. Very high levels of sulphide (several hundred mg/L) inhibit colour formation. |
Measuring Range | The standard measuring range is 0 – 2 mg/L. The colour comparator has 6 colour fields: 0–0.1–0.2–0.5–1–2 mg/L. For higher sulphide concentrations, the sample has to be diluted. A 1:4 sample dilution can be carried out easily, thus extending the measuring range to 8 mg/L. |
Shelf Life | 2 years |
Applications | Determination of sulphide levels in bore water and waste water. |
